Competition for residential development
with 200 units and related facilities (Europan 7 / Pori)
Urban Planning Level.
The site is located to the west of the Pori Urban National Park and within
the vicinity of the Pori Promenade City, "Promenadi-Pori 2000". Taking the
advantage of this particular location between these two national and
historical; revitalized and recent Pori city developments, we propose to
extend these two strategic areas inwards into the site. This strategy
determines the synergetic relationship with the existing urban development
and the geometry of the proposed Aurora Borealis Buildings…
Architectural Level
While the Green Platform serves as a park extension and a great outdoor
space for the residents, the garden concept is extended within the
residential buildings. There are various garden conditions to cover
individual needs: Building One and Two along Mikonkatu have an Internal
Vertical Garden from level 2 to level 7 with glazing cover at level 5
providing a volume for semi public use. Building Three provides two
Floating Gardens at level 4 and level 7. The garden spaces in Building
Four and Five along Itsenäisyydenkatu are more private with access at each
level for apartment at both wings…
Seeing it's light evokes a sense of warm and life, bringing back the
childhood experience of gazing through the window, which is almost
completely covered with snow, seeing the twinkling light inside the house;
or the glowing evening light reflected onto the windows of cherished
friends. It entices citizens navigating towards the community.
The Aurora Borealis building skins are constantly in motion with
interaction of residents, the infilled coloured façade, with its various
degrees of translucency, and the light within individual flats. Touching
the building skin with bare hands, residents create projections. Aurora
Borealis Buildings answer to the winter nights as well as to the luminous
summer mists of Pori: The nature glows, the building glows. The
translucent leaves merge with the translucent building skin.
As Aurora Borealis, the community is rich is colour, rich in life and ever
changing.
